New Director Interview – “The series is expanding”
The next issue of Famitsu Weekly will feature an interview with Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura. He discusses the changes the changes the overseas version of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep will undergo as well as the future of the series! A small it of it has been released ahead of time, please read the translation below! Thanks to FF-Reunion for the original text.
(From the part about Coded to the overseas version of Birth by Sleep)
– We’re anxious when it comes to the next title in the series.
Nomura: To start with, there is the overseas version of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. The general specifications for it have been settled. We intended to put in a “Critical Mode” in the battle system. The bosses we felt were a little weak have become stronger. We also thought that the attack “Mega Flare” was too strong so there are plans to regulate it as well. The various circumstances of the cutscenes will change too, they will return more to the original plan. They will be adjusted so that way the story is easier to understand and supplementary parts will be added.
– It seems like there are various changes being made. May we be expecting a Final Mix version?
Nomura: As for that, it depends on how much the domestic version changes. However, since we basically want to produce one title a year for the Kingdom Hearts series, I don’t plan on going several years without releasing news.
– In another 2 years it’ll be the 10th anniversary of the series. How about Kingdom Hearts 3?
Nomura: Haha I can’t talk about that, it’s a secret! As I’ve said before, the next release relates to the mystery of the series.
– Do you see the complete series concluding in KH3?
Nomura: Kingdom Hearts has been Sora’s story, but the series is currently expanding, it’s also the story of another person. Right now, you could say “that person is the center of the series”.
– The series is currently expanding!?
Nomura: I can’t say anymore than that. (Laughs)
– Are there any other titles in the works?
Nomura: With everything going on, I can say there is one title being prepared for public announcement; the advertisement department is already discussing it with me. Please look forward to more about it.

Another interview in cryptic Nomura fashion. :p
:D Sounds fun, darn Nomura why do you always have to be super mysterious.
Also I wonder who that person is….I have a guess buuuuut, I’m most likely wrong if it were up to Nomura ;)
He’s a tough egg to crack!
Thanks for the interview + translation!
AWESOME~!!! THIS IS SOUNDS SO EXCITING!!! THANKS, OLIVIA!
He has absolutely no idea what he’s doing anymore… >_>;;
Please let someone else take over KH, SE. T_T
I’m so glad we get an edition better than the original.
But if Japan does get a final mix, I’m gonna cry (not really). As for the other main character, is it Xehanort (he does have many forms!)?
Please let that other title be TWEWY 2 or something of that nature. want so much.
KHInsiders Lissar and Krexia have both just published the whole interview from Famitsu, and it says that if you clear all the blocks in a Destiny Islands room(?) then a secret scene happens with Riku, which in a way could be Codeds secret ending.
I remembered that you, Olivia, had a phone with Coded on it so I thought I would give you the heads up and maybe you might be able to tell us westerners whats that secret scene holds?
I got the “secret scene”, it’s the scene with Riku on the clocktower in Neverland with knocked out Kairi. I’ll try recording it sometime.
Is it just what was shown in trailers or is there more to it?
Damn Nomura and his secrets…>_>”
Wonder who this other central person is though…
Oh, yes, do give us more secrets and info on coded, please! 8D
:/ mmmmh other person’s story?
sounds like Ven or Terra to me since initially, it looks like it’s all Ventus.
idk, I don’t trust Nomura anymore.
I just hope he’s not planning making another thing like days… (but after that, anything is possible. LOL)
w-want to see more riku ; ;
btw; olivia, don’t feel pushed about the ending of coded. it’s not like you HAVE TO do it, people can learn to be more polite.
Why does Tetsuya Nomura have to be such a sadist? He purposely adds these little hints just to drive us insane!!!
My view of the series has gone back and forth over the 8 years its been around, but I’ve been a dedicated fan all the while. It’s clear to me that the ‘other’ person is Xehanort. Kingdom Hearts and the following two games (Chain of Memories/II) follow the story of Sora, who represents light. But one of the main focus points of the whole story is duality of light and dark. One cannot exist without the other. Birth by Sleep is the conception of Xehanort, who over 11 years tormented the world through his avatars. It only makes sense that he would be considered the other axis of the story. Not to mention Nomura mentioned in another interview that Xehanort would “most certainly” be in the next game.
Then again, after so many installments Nomura’s stories tend to go to all to pieces when it come to making sense (see: Final Fantasy 7).

so you said that you are changing the story to a totally different character? how come you’ve decided to do that? sora and his adventures made such a great story line, it’d kind of blow to see him just kinda be forgotten. will he, roxas, kiari and rikku return?
